Student Rights and Responsibilities
Students with disability have right to:
- Reasonable Accommodations, applicable academic modifications, support aides and services as necessary.
- Confidentiality, university adheres to Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) relating to disability information; unless otherwise required or permitted by law.
- Equal access to courses, programs and activities.
Students with disabilities have the responsibility to:
- Meet all university academic requirements.
- Self-identify and disclose their disability to Accessibility Services Office, if accommodations are requested. Accommodations are not retroactive, so it is recommended students begin process as early as possible.
- Submit required documentation of disability.
- Schedule meetings with their faculty to discuss approved accommodations provided by Accessibility Services.
University has the right to:
- Develop and maintain requirements and standards for admission to the University and for participation in its course, programs, and activities.
- Request up to date, pertinent documentation that verifies disability and need for accommodations.
- Decide reasonable accommodations.
Decline a request for accommodations:
- If student does not provide up to date pertinent information that substantiates disability and need for accommodations.
- If the request is for retroactive accommodations.
- If request requires a fundamental change to a course, program or activity.
- If request would cause an undue financial burden on the University.
University has the duty to:
- Make certain that admissions policies and procedures are non-discriminatory with regard to students with disability
- Verify that programs, activities and services, in their entirety, are accessible.
- Supply reasonable accommodations, academic modifications, supportive aids and services in a timely manner.
